La Jolla, home the #1 Surf College & 15th Best Global University – UCSD

Not only is La Jolla known for its incredible beaches and upscale community, but for being home to a top university, the University of California, San Diego. With around 22,700 undergraduates and 6,300 postgraduates, the university is split into six different residential colleges, plus three graduate schools and two professional medical schools. It is also decorated by over a dozen public art projects and was recently ranked the #1 surf college in America. These accomplishments not only add value to the university itself but the neighborhood around it. With increasing applicants over the years, the demand for housing around the area is more than ever and the community is flourishing with this influence.

World’s 4th Best Public College

The 2017 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) ranked UC San Diego as the 15th best university in the world. Released by the Center for World-Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (one of the most prestigious universities in China), the rankings also included UCSD as the 13th best university overall in the United States and the world’s 4th best public college.

Receiving high rankings is not new for the university, also being named 14th best campus in the globe for developing research to create services or products that benefit society and spur economic growth by the journal Nature. On top of this, in June, it received the 29th spot in the Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings 2017.

Surfer Magazine’s #1 Surf College in America

Being situated above Black’s Beach, one of the most serene, awe-inspiring surf breaks in Southern California, it’s no surprise the university secured the top college spot in Surfer Magazine. UCSD’s aquatic recreation classes further add to the world-class education, with surf, swim, and scuba diving courses being offered. The nationally-ranked surf team operates as a sports club but is still skilled enough to be a part of the competition in national circuits. On top of this, UCSD’s internationally-renowned Scripps Institute of Oceanography is one of the largest, oldest, and most important education, public service, and ocean/earth science research centers in the world.
